The Passport is a subscription-based service available for a monthly fee. Ages have passed, and once again the threat of evil looms over Orchesterra – will you rise to the task? Directed by Yuji Horii, featuring the inspirational music composed by Koichi Sugiyama, and monster design by the visionary creator of the DRAGON BALL series, Akira Toriyama, DRAGON QUEST TACT will immerse you in a marvelous world of fantasy, magic, and memorable monsters! Thanks to their courage and wit, the dark lord was sealed away, bringing peace to the world. Long ago, when an evil force brought the world of Orchesterra to the brink of destruction, a legendary hero led a loyal band of monsters in defiance. An ever-growing list of freely obtainable monsters means that you can grow your roster without spending at all! Monsters of all rarity levels and strengths have a role to play! Resourceful players will be rewarded on the Battle Road, where monsters of all power levels will be required. Study the battlefield and outwit your foes on-the-go! ◆OUTWIT YOUR ENEMIES IN BATTLE! Orchestrate your monsters’ movements in a pocket-sized tactical experience! Pick-up-and-play controls and deep tactical elements give experts and newcomers something to enjoy. Train, equip, and customize them to make them your very own! It would be really nice if the game gave you more rewards for using a team that’s a little under leveled to encourage more tactical play, but there is never a good reason to use anything other than your strongest team, and the auto battle feature makes gameplay totally mindless. The tactics never require anything more than a basic rock paper scissors understanding of how the elements work, and if your party is even a little over leveled you can pretty much ignore strategy all together. Sometimes an entire day’s worth of work is only enough to upgrade one attack. All that’s left for me to do is daily quests, equipment and skill upgrades all of which are incredibly tedious and unsatisfying. Edit, after only a week of daily playtime I have drained the game of all of it’s content. Otherwise I’d say it’s pretty cute, but lacks substance. It adds nothing to the experience and only serves to stand in your way, so that they can drip feed you just enough content to keep you engaged while never leaving you satisfied. This game would be so much more playable without the energy system. If you like tactics games then give this a shot, but don’t expect the most engrossing story. Music is a joy to listen to while playing, but I’m guessing you could pair the gameplay with the podcast of your choice and watch the time fly by. If you have patience then you can obtain those more powerful party members in time. There are micro transactions, but from what I gather they just fast track you towards getting more powerful party members and speeding up the battles. If you are still commuting to the office or don’t have a handheld gaming device to get your RPG itch then this is a great alternative. Grinding is a staple in the Dragon Quest series, but it doesn’t feel like a chore here. Smooth gameplay and a wealth of side missions, timed events and leveling mechanics keep me coming back for more. I love tactics games and the art style of the Dragon Quest series blends together quite nicely. I don’t really play many mobile games, but this is a great use of the Dragon Quest license. I actually enjoy a lot of aspects of this game including the sound track, gameplay, and even charming monsters, but if you’re looking for just a good FREE-TO-PLAY JRPG mobile game, try Square Enix’s other mobile game FF Dissidia, because that one is far more free to play than this one. However this game took it a step further by legit making the game and animations slower, and then offering us the “Very Fast” option in its monthly subscription “Passport”. Usually we’re use to the aspect of mobile games slowing us down, and offering us experience and gold boosters to speed up the process. Then there’s the “Passport”, which is this games subscription. This game even includes the concept that your paid gems won’t give you the same rewards as earned gems. In fact that’s the case for a lot of this games aspects. The rate you earn gems (this games premium currency) feel rather greedy, especially when you compare this to one of Square Enix’s other games, FF Dissidia. However I have to admit that this games micro-transaction are rather heavy starting off. You could even say this game has a Pokémon vibe, but with the DQ enemies. I rather enjoy the tactical gameplay and the characters are actually charming all in their own way. So I’ve been playing the game very day on my lunch break and when I get home.
